The Sorrel Youth Cafe Project.
The Sorrel Youth Cafe is coming!
A place at last for the young people of Mountsorrel. The new cafe is intended to be on the site of the Maltby Insurance building at the bottom of the Green in the heart of the village, which is a great place for it to be.
The cafe will be comfortable and cosy, with access to interesting and helpful activities and will be led by a qualified youth worker, supported by volunteers of all ages.
The purpose of the cafe is quite simply, to provide somewhere for the young people of the village to go and relax with their friends outside of school hours. Though it is a cafe, it is not a money making venture and is entirely independent. We have already received many generous donations and help from local people, businesses and organisations. Some major funding is already in place from Charitable Trusts and the Local Authority and more funding applications are in progress.
After consulting with young people, it is planned initially that the cafe will open after school weekdays until 8.30pm. This is when, they agreed, it will be most needed. We have permission to open between 10am and 8-30pm Monday to Saturday. The cafe will not open on Sunday or bank holidays. Other times between 10am and 8-30pm may be available during school holidays and other groups may be able to use the cafe space to deliver activities which will benefit our young people.
The exact form the cafe will take is up to the young people and anyone who wants to be a part of the project.
We have received a great deal of support already but this is an exciting project that anyone can be involved in.
